The scandal overshadowed the opening of the new Opera House in Copenhagen ("Opera"). The architect Hennig Larsen, on whose project the building was built, said the day before that his ideas were distorted by the customer, and in relation to his creation he feels nothing but bitterness. The theater is a gift to the Danes from a prominent businessman Mersk McKinney Moller, who fully financed the project worth 442 million USD. This generosity was combined with tight control of the owner of the largest shipping company over the design and construction process. He appointed the architect himself, abandoning the usual international competition in such cases. He refused to discuss the project with the city authorities and the future owners of the building - the Royal Opera. At the same time, he insisted on changing the facade of the theater: the glazed facade was equipped with a metal grate. Critics now compare it to the 1955 Pontiac radiator. At the same time, despite the occasionally gaudy décor, the 14-storey complex made it possible to accommodate the entire Danish Opera troupe, which never had its own building. The auditorium with three tiers of balconies is designed for 1400 seats, the orchestra pit for 110 musicians. The theater has more than 1,100 office and rehearsal rooms, a restaurant, an additional stage for rehearsals or chamber performances. The acoustics of the main hall leave nothing to be desired.
