The Puerta America hotel halfway between the city center and the airport cost 75 million euros; it has 360 rooms. A total of 23 architects and designers were invited to decorate its interiors.
Jean Nouvel expressed a desire to decorate the facade as well, which, of course, was allowed to him. In addition to him, Zaha Hadid, Norman Foster, David Chipperfield, Ron Arad, Arata Isozaki, Katherine Findlay, Richard Gluckman, Mark Newson, John Pawson took part in this unusual undertaking. Each of the co-authors was given a floor of a new building or one of the public spaces - a bar, a lobby, etc.
Ron Arad suggested placing the combined volume of a bedroom and a bathroom made of red plastic in the middle of the bedroom, Zaha Hadid demonstrated an example of "digital interior", David Chipperfield turned to his traditional principles of simplicity, Norman Foster's bureau took maximum opportunities for architectural creativity from the given conditions. Jean Nouvel has tiled the façade with multi-colored plastic panels, and the rooms on his floor are "inspired by a woman's body and love games." On the surface of the facade are written the lines of Paul Eluard's poem "Freedom" in the original and translated into different languages, including Russian.
At the end of April, the building will be inaugurated by King Juan Carlos II of Spain.
