Seven local, Catalan bureaus were rivals, including Carlos Ferrater, winner of a recent Canarian competition. The new building will be located on the banks of the Segre River, in the center of the second largest city in the province, near the Barcelona-Madrid high-speed railway station. It will house a theater hall for 1200 spectators, a conference hall and a restaurant. It will form an ensemble with two towers of residential apartments and offices. The sculptural volume of the building faced with limestone should attract attention from afar. Its protruding second tier expresses the concept of "shade and shelter" for the square in front of the center - in summer it will be possible to hide under it from the sun's rays, and in winter - from the torrential rains common in Catalonia. The lobby of the theater, located in the mezzanine, will offer a view of the city. It is designed in blue tones, the multifunctional conference room is in shades of gold, the auditorium is decorated with traditional red velvet.
