A total of 71 buildings around the world have now been awarded by the professional association of British architects. All of them are automatically candidates for the Sterling Prize, which will be presented for the tenth time this year. These buildings include schools, residential buildings, office complexes and factories.
From the facilities in the United Kingdom, the jury singled out Enric Miralles, the Scottish Parliament ensemble, the new Asprey store in London and the Sage concert hall in Norman Foster's Gateshead, and David Adjaye's Idea Store library in London.
Among the European "laureates" are the Mijo Foster viaduct in southern France, the administration building of Zaha Hadid's BMW plant in Leipzig and the headquarters of Max Mara in Reggio d'Emilia, Italy, by John MacAslan. Foreign Office Architects also honored the Spain pavilion at the 2005 World Exhibition in Osaka.
