Along with its projects in Belgium, Finland and Austria, Hall will build a large complex uniting three cultural institutions. The competition also included, among other workshops, Snohatta and the British bureau Caruso Saint John.
The new building will house the Herning Museum of Art, the Ensemble MidtVest and the Socle du Monde art biennale. As all three institutes have gained worldwide fame, their association under one roof and potential cooperation should contribute to the development of the entire region of central Jutland.
The useful areas of the future complex should be 5,000 - 7,000 square meters. m. It will include exhibition halls, a concert hall for 300 seats, rehearsal rooms, a restaurant, a media library and administration offices.
The building will be located on a plain, and Hall has inscribed it in the surrounding landscape with turf-covered roofs, heaped hills and artificial reservoirs (the latter hide garages and utility rooms). Membrane ceilings are made of carbon fiber embedded in a rubber bonding medium. Their white inner surface will be visible from the inside of the building. The stability of the roof is provided by thin rods in the mullions of the windows, which balance the tension of the structure above the central pillars between them.
The spaces of the galleries are designed with a minimum of details, the main thing in them is clearly verified proportions. Skylight windows provide natural illumination of the halls, and the mobility of internal partitions - ease of possible redevelopment.
