The new ensemble, consisting of the casino itself, three hotel towers, a museum and a recreational area of the embankment, will be built on a 20 hectare plot on the seafront (in an artificially drained area), near the center of Singapore. It will be inscribed in a strip between the water and the park with an area of 0.5 hectares. The architects called this scheme the "microcosm of the city", closely connected with the sea.
Three high-rise buildings of the hotel with a height of 170 m (50 floors) will be united by a roof, on which a garden will be laid out. Its dimensions will be comparable to the size of the deck of an aircraft carrier (length - more than 300 m). From the north, it will protrude 50 m beyond the upper floors of the towers, and in its design the architects used the developments of the aircraft industry.
Nearby there will be two auditoriums for 2,000 spectators each, a five-story congress center, a shopping center with an area of almost 100,000 square meters. m, and the casino itself.
The building of the Museum of Science and Arts will be covered with a saucer-shaped roof. Rainwater will be collected there to power the artificial waterfall. It was the inclusion of the $ 3.2 billion complex of the museum in the program that tipped the opinion of the Singapore authorities in favor of the developers, Las Vegas Sands, and Moshe Safdie they invited.
The latter only a year ago lifted the ban on the construction of gambling establishments that had existed for more than half a century (similar laws are common in Southeast Asia). The reason for this is the desire to attract the maximum number of tourists to Singapore, including from neighboring countries, where casinos are still prohibited. At the same time, the authorities wanted to create a positive image of a small state, making the Marina Bay Sands complex at the same time a cultural center.
The project is expected to create over 10,000 jobs and generate 1% of Singapore's GDP.
