The new building, which the College of Architecture, Art and Planning will use, shouldn't get much attention, the architect said. Its role is the role of a node connecting the surrounding buildings, a public space for students, and this will not be a center for official events, but the natural concentration of their life, which takes place within the walls of the university.

Koolhaas studied at Cornell in 1972-1973 and knows from his own experience the problems of this university, the main one of which is severe winters.

The area of the future construction is 4000 sq. m, it will house studios, a library, exhibition spaces, a lobby and a main auditorium. Koolhaas abandoned the traditional "corridor" scheme: all rooms smoothly flow into one another.

In total, the building will have three tiers - underground and two above ground, and a large auditorium in height will take all three floors.

The new building, made of glass and white painted concrete, will refresh the campus complex dominated by buildings from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Construction should begin in 2007 and be completed in 2009.
