The project of a tennis club on the Leningradskoe highway was developed in detail by Vladimir Plotkin back in the late nineties, but then the construction did not begin. Now the plan is being implemented on a larger scale - instead of one, two complexes will be built, under the common name of the National Tennis Center. We recently wrote about one, relatively speaking, its front part, which will combine the demonstration court with the hotel. The second component of the center is a sports complex for training tennis players, the direct heir to an eight-year-old project, so it is especially interesting to observe the changes that have occurred to it.

After the demonstration court was removed from the project at the request of the customer, the building became more pragmatic. One part of it is actually a hangar that can accommodate six training courts. Inside, the 56-meter span is covered by a single metal truss without additional supports, so, if necessary, it can be turned into one large competition hall by installing temporary stands.

The second building will accommodate two more courts, a restaurant and a fitness center. The roof of this smaller volume is exploited, inclined, covered with even ledges, wide steps, such as are found in parks. From the side of the highway, the roof descends to the ground, to the reservoir - gently rises to a height of two floors. Accordingly, for passing cars, it will look like a square, arranged on a low hill. In addition, now this space is planned to be used from time to time as an outdoor assembly hall for the events of the Tennis Federation.

The idea of hiding the building behind a sloping roof was the main theme of the previous project of the 90s, where such a roof was supposed for both buildings, covered with grass, like the cover of a giant dugout, which was carefully lifted to look at the "lake" landscape of the Khimki reservoir. In the joking expression of Vladimir Plotkin, this is a stealth house, just as invisible.

Several points of view on the landscape were calculated here: the first for passing cars, which, ideally, may not notice the building, therefore, it will not spoil their view of the greenery. The second is from the inside, a beautiful view of the water. The third, for those who could not resist, went ashore and returned - the only front facade of the complex.

The combination of several opposite impressions inevitably made the image of the building "layered", even contrasting. The tennis center of 1998, hiding from the highway under a grassy slope, on the other hand, was extremely active - it captured space with metal structures, twisted with an open spiral staircase, reflected the water landscape in large panoramic windows. The building had two faces - for passers-by it would be a square, for those invited to the competition or just coming to look from the other side - a palace of sports.

The new project solves the "stealth theme" differently. The composition of the two buildings has remained almost intact, but the image has completely changed. It has become very solid, generalized, only at the slightest angle the nuances change - the slope, the colors, the lines intersecting at oblique angles. Broken contours are explained quite simply - where possible, these bevels reduce the apparent dimensions of the building. If we finish drawing all the cut planes, the architect says, the building will become noticeably more massive.

However, even knowing the motives, it is difficult to get rid of the feeling that the house was wrapped like wrapping paper, wrapped in a camouflage net of unknown production and it both fell and lay down - in wide, slightly breaking planes: below the shell "reflects" the earth and becomes darker, with the side of the reservoir-lake is parted - just a little bit thin strips of blinds, freeing the window of the restaurant a beautiful view.

But outside the glass shine is hidden, which adds intrigue - the building does not have the usual windows, although it peeps all the time: through the blinds or through narrow tape windows. There are no windows in the traditional sense here at all, neither rectangles nor open stained-glass windows, which works on the image of a natural object, a large stone, neutral to the environment, or a giant cocoon. The color of the shell will be either wood - made of plastic panels, very similar to imitating wood, or silver. And he, the other, in their own way, emphasize the main emotion that arises when looking at the "object" from the outside - irrationality, "secrecy." It's like the new model's stealth has landed.
