Hadid's project complemented the work of Norman Foster, Richard Rogers, J. M. Pei and other prominent architects, whose buildings will form the complex of judicial institutions in the Valdebebas district of Madrid.
The main task for the architect was the creation of a full-fledged public space, since, in her opinion, the general layout of the Campus, on the contrary, puts the number of office space in the first place. Therefore, her project involves the creation of an open courtyard in the center of the building, connected with the main ways of passing the human streams of the entire ensemble. As a result, the building occupies a key position in relation to the rest of the buildings in the complex.
The shifted vertical axis of its main volume gives dynamism to the general appearance of the structure. The feeling of resilience emanating from the building attracts the visitor and gives the impression that it is floating above the ground.
Its façade is made up of a double self-ventilated shell. Its outer layer is made of movable metal panels that can be opened and closed depending on weather conditions. The roof covering includes solar panels.
The center of the interior space is a semicircular glazed atrium connected to the inner courtyard of the building. Through it, natural light enters the courtrooms on the first floor of the building.
