CityCentre is a huge ensemble of three hotels with a total of almost 5,000 rooms, residential buildings with 1,640 apartments, a casino, and about 50,000 sq. M. m of shops, cafes and entertainment facilities. The client is MGM Mirage, which owns hotels and casinos both in Las Vegas and around the world. CityCentre is currently the largest private construction project in the United States, with a budget of $ 5 billion. This scope was reinforced by a serious approach to the choice of architects. Currently, Cesar Pelly, Norman Foster and Cohn Pedersen Fox are working on the project, and Jensler has been appointed as executive architect.
Daniel Libeskind was tasked with designing a shopping center overlooking Las Vegas Boulevard. The architect used in this work his characteristic sharp crystalline forms, which passed from his projects of museums and memorials to projects of residential buildings, and now - of shops. Metal-clad volumes with glass inserts hide the typical elements of American "malls" inside - a long arcade with expensive shops, fountains, cafes and the main atrium, which plays the role of a lobby. The shopping center connects the Boulevard with the Casino Square in the center of the ensemble, as well as with the nearby hotels.
The construction of the CityCentre complex is planned to be completed at the end of 2009.
