The curator of the exhibition, Aaron Betsky, said that Gehry was awarded the Golden Lion for his vital contribution for his creative approach to an architectural experiment: first he disassembled the architecture into separate "cubes", and then assembled it again, already in the form of new forms and combinations of volumes. with new logic of composition creation. All this took years, but even now, in the fifth decade of his creative life, the architect does not plan to stop his search. Betsky also mentioned that Gehry was one of the first to use a computer in design, which brought the architectural profession to new horizons. These two "breakthroughs" by Frank Gehry - in the sphere of shaping and in the sphere of practice - freed architects and gave them new space for creativity, Betsky said.

Along with Gehry, the distinguished American architectural historian James S. Ackermann, author of works on the architecture of the Italian Renaissance, which changed the science of art, will receive a special Golden Lion for his life contribution at the Biennale. This award is timed to coincide with the 500th anniversary of the birth of Andrea Palladio, one of the "protagonists" of Ackerman's research, which is celebrated this year.

The list of prizes for this year's Biennale has also been approved: the Golden Lion for the national pavilion, the Golden Lion for the best project of the international exposition and the Silver Lion for the young architect for participating in the international exposition will be awarded.

The jury will include Paola Antonelli, curator of the New York MoMA Museum, Director of the Stadel Institute Max Hollein, American critic Jeffrey Kipnis, Farshid Moussavi from the British bureau FOA and architecture historian, professor at the University of Rome La Sapienza Luigi Prestinenza Puglisi.
