The site for the construction of the next supermarket of the Slovenian chain Mercator was an industrial zone with buildings at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The local committee on national heritage has demanded that developers restore the rebuilt water tower to its original form and incorporate the main façade of the old slaughterhouse into the new shopping center complex. At the same time, the Mercator company allocated minimal funds for the construction: according to its plans, a primitive concrete block with dimensions of 46x42x7 m with only one decorated facade should be erected there.

At the same time, the new store is located in an open space, and its three walls had to be decorated in one way or another within the budget of 60,000 euros (the fourth wall - with the main entrance - is the historical façade of the abattoir).

It was decided to use the motif of steps in the decor in order to revive the uninteresting rectangular block of the building. As a material, the architects chose metal panels painted with bronze paint. But with the available funds, it was possible to sheathe only 20% of the required surface with them, therefore, circles of different diameters were cut out of these sheets and decorated with them the remaining open concrete surface. The resulting "upholstery nails" were connected with a metal chain: in the future, this structure will become the basis for climbing plants, while the metal "dots" fit into the Mercator advertising campaign based on this symbol.
