Hadid took up the design of the Christmas tree along with other architects and designers who this year took part in the charity project "Les sapins de Noël des Créateurs", which aims to raise funds for children with AIDS. This Christmas festival is being held for the 13th time, but up to this point almost exclusively couturiers have participated in it - Karl Lagerfeld, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Stella McCartney and many others.
This year, the founder of this program, fashion journalist Marie-Christian Marek, also invited architects and interior designers: Norman Foster, Zaha Hadid, Jacques Rougerie, India Mahdawi, Rena Dumas. In this regard, the exposition of the participants' works was held in the halls of the Center for Architecture and Heritage (Cité de l'architecture et du patrimoine) in the Paris Chaillot Palace. The architects' Christmas trees were the most popular among auction visitors: Foster's work was sold for 8,500 euros, Mahdavi - for 8,000, Rougeri - for 5,100. But Zaha Hadid's project, a double spiral made of white plastic, provided the organizers with almost half of the proceeds: they paid for it 46,000 euros, while the total income from the sale of 44 designer trees (which were sometimes much further from the natural prototype than the Hadid variant) amounted to 101,000 euros. They will go to the construction of a shelter in Togo for children left orphans after the death of their parents from AIDS.
