The campus at Sutton Bonington, near Loughborough, includes the School of Practical and Theoretical Veterinary Medicine and the School of Biological Sciences. They will now be housed in a new building designed by Make architects. The facility will integrate laboratories, auditoriums and faculty's offices in a total area of 3,100 m2 (budget £ 5 million). A light "portico" marking the main entrance to the building connects it with its natural surroundings. The jury also received special praise for the transformable floor layout, which makes it easy to change the functions of individual rooms, as well as the environmental friendliness of the future building (in particular, locally produced materials will be widely used in the construction, in particular, wood and pressed straw panels).
This will be Ken Shuttleworth's second work for the University of Nottingham, completing three buildings on his Jubilee campus last year.
