The Global award for sustainable architecture, founded by the Parisian Center for Architecture and Heritage (Cité de l'architecture et du patrimoine) and the German architect Jana Revedin, has been awarded for the third time. The name of the winner will be announced in October, but before that, five candidates will take part in a symposium dedicated to the problems of architecture, "sustainable development" series of books. Thus, the main goal of the award will be achieved - to popularize the ideas of ecological architecture on the example of the best works of the finalists, who are prominent figures of the "green" movement.
The nominees are Thomas Herzog, Sami Rintala, Diébédo Francis Kéré, Bijoy Jain and Patrick Bouchain.
German architect Thomas Herzog is known as an adherent of the "climatic architecture" trend, which studies the direction and strength of the wind, the intensity of the sun's rays, etc. to use their energy and neutralize the negative influence. Its buildings include both bioclimatic buildings with minimal material costs in Germany and eco-buildings in the developing countries of the southern hemisphere.
Finnish Sami Rintala, who works in Norway, develops a line of architecture close to nature and land art. He focuses on the experience of traditional architecture and strives to use exclusively local materials, while maintaining the character of the building characteristic of the particular area.
Diebedo Francis Kere (Burkina Faso) uses the techniques of national architecture and handicraft production in his buildings, tries to attract future "users" of these structures to the implementation of his social projects. He pays special attention to the problem of architectural education.
Indian architect Bijoy Jain (Studio Mumbai) also focuses on the experience of national architecture - both in the field of creating an optimal micro-climate in the building, and in the process of choosing and saving building materials.
Patrick Buschen (France) opposes the thoughtless consumption of resources that is characteristic of the modern West. He uses metal gasoline tanks, wooden fishing boats, etc. as materials in his projects, tries to minimize construction costs, is actively involved in the regeneration of industrial zones and the problem of social housing for the poorest strata of the population.
