The authors of the project, bureau gmp, re-planned the area of 27 hectares, while 25 buildings were rebuilt, and another 10 were re-erected.
This project is interesting in that it seems to demonstrate movement in the opposite main direction: during the time that has passed after the unification of Germany, many structures that were previously used for military needs are being demolished and reconstructed - in general, they are being converted. And in this case, the opposite is true: an updated military unit complex was put into operation, designed for the location of a sapper battalion, a sanitary unit and a school of engineering troops.
To reflect the function of the engineering troops in the solution of the ensemble, the architects emphasized its main axis not only with an alley of plane trees, but also with a line of reservoirs. The main educational building of the school acts as the "gate" of the military unit: it consists of a central glass volume of the vestibule and the main auditorium, flanked by elongated concrete blocks with smaller rooms. The parade ground and the sports complex close the axis. All major new buildings have a discreet appearance, their facades are clad in dark gray fiber cement panels.
