It will consist of a new building and a reconstructed neoclassical Civic Center (1928-1939), more precisely, the part that housed the magistrate's court. Since the city Art Gallery is located in the same building, a space for temporary exhibitions will be opened for it in the wing of the Sea City built from scratch, which will make it possible to free up space in the historical halls for a permanent exhibition.
But this will be the least important function of the new museum: The Sea City will primarily focus on Southampton's past as one of the most important ports in the British Isles over the past 2,000 years. The central place in the exposition will be occupied by the history of the Titanic, which set off on its first and last voyage from Southampton; among the dead were 549 residents of this city - mostly team members.
It is planned to create in the museum a reconstruction of the docks and pier of Southampton with a "Titanic" standing there, which visitors can climb. Also on display will be 4,000 items, in one way or another related to the liner or even raised from the ocean floor after the disaster.
