The pavilion and "plain" (from the Dutch "square") "New Amsterdam" are located in the center of the square itself - the Plaza Peter Minøit, named after the Dutch colonial official who united separate settlements in New Amsterdam in 1626 - what eventually became New York. New spaces and structures, funded by the Kingdom of the Netherlands in honor of its invariably friendly relations with the United States, appeared exactly where those historical events took place: on the "bow" of Manhattan Island, in Battery Park.

Plaza Peter Minøyt is located where every day 150,000 residents and visitors change from water transport to metro, buses and bicycles. This transport “hub” has now acquired the features of a European public space, it has become a kind of urban “living room” for recreation, holding fairs and other similar events. In the center of the square, a 465 m2 "plain" has been created, and already in its center, resembling a blossoming flower, there is a pavilion. It has opened a New York City Center Alliance help desk and an organic grocery store.

Despite some inconsistencies in historical chronology (the first Dutch settlements arose on the Hudson not in 1611, but in 1614), the creators of the project are attentive to the time: every midnight the white walls of the New Amsterdam pavilion will be animated with a multi-colored projection in honor of Peter Mineuyt, whose the surname is translated from Dutch as "midnight".
