The customers of this project were young spouses, who recently acquired ownership of a plot in one of the districts of the Moscow region. The land they bought is located on the side of a small hill that faces a valley surrounded by perennial trees. It was this picturesque landscape that became the main argument for the spouses in favor of acquiring the site, therefore their first and main wish to the architect was the maximum preservation of the natural environment. And, of course, they really wanted to be able to admire the surrounding spaces from most of the rooms of their house. As Roman Leonidov admits, this predetermined the composition of the cottage.

First of all, the architect divided the functions into different volumes, and the volumes, in turn, scattered them as much as possible along the slope. The house has two independent wings, spread out in different directions: one has a swimming pool, the other has a block of guest bedrooms. At the same time, rectangular volumes in the plan are not on one axis, but are deliberately displaced relative to each other, and in the central "core" also rectangular there are an entrance area, stairs, bathrooms and a sofa room with a large fireplace, which, if desired, can be transformed into a home theater …

Another living room, combined with a dining room, is interpreted as a gallery with panoramic windows facing three cardinal directions at once. Outwardly, this volume resembles a telescopic bridge or ladder, which is pushed as far as possible for the best view. Its "mechanical" origin is emphasized by the powerful diagonals of the window sashes and the brutal stone "casing" of the console itself. A large terrace is organized on the roof of the gallery - from it, located at the level of the tree crowns, even more epic views of the surroundings open up.

The private areas of the owners - the parents' bedroom, children's rooms and a spacious library - are assembled on the second floor, which is also designed as an elongated rectangular volume, shifted relative to the center of the composition and hanging over the main entrance with a spectacular console. And in order to visually lighten the structure and diversify it, Leonidov shifts this volume relative to the gallery located below: the parallelepiped of bedrooms rests with only one half on the “ladder” - the second is supported by thin inclined supports, and they “insure »The main console. “Thus we have a very dynamic form, devoid of repetitions and thus very natural in its essence, because in nature something is rarely repeated twice,” explains the architect. - And in order to slightly balance, "tame" the natural chaos, a system of metal supports - "legs" was introduced into the project. The geometrism and the deliberate randomness of the composition are softened by the round garden laid out in front of the house.

In accordance with the wishes of the customers, all premises of the house, including the pool and guest rooms, have panoramic glazing, which allows the surrounding landscapes to enter the interiors as much as possible. The boundaries of external and internal become even more conditional due to the use of emphasized neutral colors and the same materials as in the decoration of facades in the decoration of rooms. Wood and stone surfaces "flow" from outside to inside: for example, the conditional border between the dining room and the living room is marked by the same stone tiles that decorate the facades of the pool and basement, and the niche for placing the home theater screen is trimmed with wood that is present on the facades of the private block. The main staircase is also interestingly solved: its steps seem to be suspended in the air and thus resemble the consoles that dominate the architectural appearance of the house, and the crossed cables supporting them are perceived as a clear paraphrase of the external inclined supports.

Very modern in its composition and combination of materials, this house is at the same time instantly recognizable as an heir and even a direct descendant of both constructivists and modernists. More recently, the demand for such cottages was negligible, except that the architects designed such houses for themselves. But, fortunately, the taste preferences of the public tend to progress, and the neo-modernist style so popular in the West is becoming more and more in demand in domestic suburban construction. Roman Leonidov, who has always considered himself the heir of this particular tradition (as he jokes, the surname obliges), is actively developing it, and this project is the best confirmation of this. Fitting into the hilly landscape near Moscow, such a complex asymmetric shape, "recruited" from simple and extremely laconic elements, the author not only solves the utilitarian tasks of placing all the functions necessary for the customer and providing cool views, but achieves a true unity of architecture and landscape.
