The fact that the jury may have problems with determining the winning projects became clear even at the first cursory acquaintance with the competitive exposition. The fact is that it was obviously dominated by projects for the improvement of household plots, while there were only a few landscapes of city-wide or courtyard spaces. Such a disproportion was characteristic and understandable for the late 1990s, when the Landscape Architecture. A Look from Home”has just emerged, but in the 2000s, the ratio of projects leveled off (perhaps not qualitatively, but quantitatively accurately), so it is frankly offensive to once again face the obvious predominance of private capital over municipal and state capital. While only a lazy official does not speak about the need to create comfortable public spaces, Russian cities suffer from their acute shortage. Nothing else can explain the fact that most of the prizes in the nomination "City-wide territories" were won by projects from Belarus (the first place was a project from Minsk, the third - from Gomel), and in order to somehow fill the nomination "Urban courtyards space”, the jury members had to first transfer the project from another competition section to it. However, first things first.
Grand Prix of the XII Festival “Landscape Architecture. A View from Home”was almost unanimously awarded to the project“Geometric Garden. Conditions”by Maria Ozhereleva and Mikhail Sudakov. This is indeed a very lyrical and beautiful work - trees and shrubs, which have been given a variety of geometric shapes, change their appearance and palette depending on the season (spring, autumn and winter are shown), but preserve the thoughtful unity of the composition. As one of the festival jury members, editor-in-chief of the Architectural Bulletin magazine Dmitry Fesenko told us, it was an “indisputable victory”.
The first place in the nomination "City-wide territories" was shared by two projects. One of them, as already mentioned, is Belarusian. This is "Park Pobedy", the reconstruction of the recreation area of the reservoir "Komsomolskoye Lake" in Minsk, carried out by the landscape architecture workshop "Minskproekt" (team of authors led by AA Aksenova). The monumental, I would even say, the sovereign spirit is felt in this work literally in everything, but the authors should be given their due: the huge territory (160 hectares!) Is not just put in order and adapted for the recreation of the townspeople, but is very successfully zoned into separate thematic areas.
The second prize in this nomination was the project of landscaping and landscaping of the Alye Parusa park in Voronezh - a joint work of MEGAPARK LLC and Olivier Dame from Damee, Vallet & Associes. As the name suggests, the park is decorated in the spirit of the famous fairy tale by Alexander Green, however, this does not mean that scarlet flags are splashing here and ships are standing on every corner - rather, the concept is based on the principle that every visitor can realize and occupy himself … In the Voronezh "Alye Sails" there are a lot of sports and playgrounds, there is also a "Chess House", paths for leisurely walks with babies and recreation areas for pensioners.
In the nomination "Urban courtyard spaces" the first place was not awarded, and the second (strictly speaking, in general, the only one awarded in this category) went to the project of integrated improvement of microdistrict No. 52 in the Marfino district of the North-Eastern Administrative District of Moscow (PlanAR architectural bureau). As the architects themselves say, their task was to make the typical block of panel houses more comfortable and "human". In order for the district to acquire individuality and the monotonous houses visually receded into the background, they had to use the brightest colors and "flashy" techniques - in particular, for each of the six quarters of the microdistrict there is a playground with a bright multi-colored coating and a special animal symbol, according to to whom it became much easier to navigate in Marfino. And yet, despite all the originality and positivity of the solutions invented, the PlanAR bureau's project took only second place. The reason, as Dmitry Fesenko explained to us, is not that the work itself did not reach the "gold" level: "It simply showed too clearly that the rehabilitation of panel buildings is very difficult, and perhaps even impossible."
There was no winner in the nomination "Project", but the jury awarded the first two places in the nomination "Household plots". “Gold” was shared between the project “125 Steps Down” by Elena Astashkina and “Forest Garden” by Yulia Novakovskaya.
In the nomination "Element of landscape design" the best were "Games with color" - a picturesque garden of the landscape design studio "Belstudio". The plants here are really carefully matched to each other in such a way that the garden's palette will please the eye with saturation and variety of shades almost at any time of the year.
The jury named the Arbor-Yacht by the architect Ivan Kachalov as the best "Subject in the Landscape". This pavilion for active holiday cottages was designed for a young married couple who are very fond of the sea and everything connected with it. That is why the architect gave the gazebo an obvious resemblance to a yacht: an extensive deck kitchen adjoins a spacious wardroom, and an area for privacy has been created on the upper "deck". Having awarded this project the first place, the experts nevertheless noted its shortcomings: in particular, the upper recreation area is not protected from rain in any way, and the whole tree is covered with a thick shiny varnish, which contradicts the key ideas of naturalness and unity with nature for the genre of landscape architecture. “Perhaps, over time, the climate will be able to cope with this, but so far the varnish is very conspicuous and spoils the impression of the object,” admits Dmitry Fesenko.
And, finally, the Art Object nomination was left without first place. On the one hand, this is even a little strange, given the number of land art festivals existing today and their seething activity, but on the other hand, it is difficult to disagree with the jury that almost all objects created within the framework of Archstoyanie and similar events are in the nature of humorous statements "for their own". After much debate, the experts awarded two second places in this nomination. One of them went to the "Capsule Hotel" by Kirill Bair and Daria Lisitsyna (creative workshop "ArchNakh"). The architects named the invented hotel "Your Closet", and it really looks most like a giant wardrobe, in each section of which a guest can spend the night. For the construction of the hotel, Bair and Lisitsyna used natural eco-materials - old wooden furniture, boards and doors found in landfills. It must be said that it was precisely the latter circumstance that largely prevented this project from claiming the "gold" - the jury saw in the use of the doors too explicit quotation of the well-known project of Alexander Brodsky.
The second "silver" went to the project of landscaping the exploited terrace of the penthouse (landscape workshop "Plan B"). The project, called "Friendship Hill", is an artificial biomorphic embankment, climbing which one can observe the panorama of all of Moscow. Some members of the jury liked the project for its unconventional plasticity, while others noted a clear discrepancy between the chosen form and the style of the "Stalinist" house in which the penthouse is located.
