The museum is located on the shores of the largest lake in Great Britain, in the Lake District National Park. The favorable location - both in terms of the beauty of the landscape and in the aspect of great tourist activity - did not fit well with the small and inconvenient building, so it was decided to build a new complex.
Its £ 10 million budget will be largely funded by the £ 7.4 million set aside by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the foundation that distributes National Lottery funds to museums, reserves, archaeological sites, and more.
In the collection of the museum there are historical steam boats, yachts and motor boats: in the 19th - 1st half of the 20th century, steam shipping and yachting were actively developing on Windermere.
The Carmody Groke project involves the construction of an ensemble of several buildings, reminiscent of boathouses. The small size and traditional appearance of each of the buildings will allow them to easily blend into the landscape.
