A manufacturer of door technology and systems is preparing for a new step in the field of resource conservation: in the main production center in Ennepetal, Germany, preparations are underway to implement not only the EN ISO 14001 standard on the environment, but also the EN 16001 standard on energy conservation.

Rational use of resources and energy conservation in modern construction and architectural design is becoming increasingly important. Along with social and economic aspects, resource-saving construction also implies taking into account environmental aspects. We must leave our children and grandchildren with full-fledged, normally functioning ecological, social and economic systems. None of these systems can exist separately from the others.

Think Green combines this way of thinking and acting.

For example, in Germany, about one third of energy resources is used for heating buildings and structures, so the issue is very acute and in the coming years it is necessary to design and build more and more private and public energy-efficient buildings.

The first steps are already being taken in the field of regulation of the issue of energy saving and CO2 emissions - new standards for buildings and structures are being introduced, detailed documentation and certification are being developed. The EED (USA), BREEAM (UK) certification systems and the DGNB (German Council for Resource-Saving Construction) certification systems are becoming more and more widespread in the international arena.

DORMA - sustainable and energy-efficient development

The goal of DORMA is to make, as far as possible within the scope of the company, a great contribution to the development of resource conservation in construction. All products, and especially new and future developments, must meet all the requirements in this vein.

DORMA has long been a supporter of the Think Green concept. Environmentally friendly and made from the finest materials, DORMA products are distinguished by their impeccable quality and durability. Stylish appearance, functionality, efficient use of energy, ergonomics - this largely explains the desire of architects to work with DORMA products, including in new resource-saving projects.

DORMA products meet the highest energy efficiency requirements, eg:

Revolving doors KT

DORMA 3- and 4-section revolving doors, equipped with highly efficient insulation and extensive control options, are an integrated solution for optimizing energy savings at the entrance to buildings.

MOVEO Glass

The mobile partition MOVEO glass also brings many advantages to the building. With its low thermal conductivity, the system also saves energy costs. In addition, the possibility of using daylight, which penetrates the glass panels of the partition, while providing good sound insulation, will somehow result in less energy consumption.

Aldo Leopold Legacy Center in the USADesigned by Kubal Washatko Architects and built in 2007, it has already won awards in the field of resource conservation, for example, the building received 61 out of 69 points and the status of platinum on the LEED rating system. The building uses DORMA door technology and DORMA access control systems.

Savings in investment and process optimization

Various DORMA projects around the world have demonstrated compliance with resource conservation standards, not only in the area of environmental protection, but also in the area of investment conservation. Or, for example, only the optimization of the supply of raw materials to the plant allowed a significant reduction in the number of transportations by trucks, which reduced CO2 emissions by 36 percent. In the past, such measures could have been overlooked, but the increasing importance of resource conservation means that such gains must be noted and continued.
