The authors are the same as in the first two phases, now successfully completed: the landscape architects Field Operations and the architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro. However, they and their customers, the Friends of High Line public organization, do not plan to rest on their laurels: the final part of the project will be even more daring than the two previous ones.
In this part, the flyover bends around a large section of railway tracks, the Hudson Yards marshalling yard, over which it has long been planned to build a quarter of mixed development with a total area of more than 1 million m2. More recently, Related developers announced that among the new skyscrapers there will be the Diller Scofidio + Renfro tower, the first in the practice of the bureau, so you can expect some formal unity of the High Line and new structures.
However, until the Hudson Yards project is completed (and will not be completed for many years), the directly adjacent High Line section will receive a "temporary" design, which preserves its state before reconstruction: overgrown with self-seeding railway tracks on a concrete "bed "And metal supports. For walks there will be a bridge raised above the greenery.
The rest of the 3rd stage will include an open amphitheater, a playground made of rubber-coated beams of the flyover structure (as a result, a kind of trenches will be obtained), a spiral staircase; will supply new types of outdoor furniture, such as swing benches.
The opening is scheduled for spring 2014; the budget for the last phase of construction will be $ 90 million.
