The project consists of a 200-meter tower - the 4th tallest office building in Germany - and the surrounding block with perimeter buildings. The symmetrical plan emphasizes the structure of the skyscraper of two vertical blocks connected by a transparent glazed lintel.
A drop-shaped square leads to the foot of the high-rise building across the entire quarter. It is surrounded by arcades, behind which there are cafes and shops. The traditional solution of the quarter, including the cladding of facades with travertine and yellow granite, is dictated by the context: there are historical buildings nearby.
The skyscraper itself continues the traditional line: instead of a transparent curtain wall, it received traditional rows of windows, separated by protruding metal profiles. This allowed to protect the interiors from overheating, which brought the Tower 185 a gold certificate of the American LEED system and a silver one - its German counterpart DGNB.
Other “green” elements of the project include a rain collection system and saving tap water, supplying all windows with air vents, etc. During the construction, whenever possible, recyclable and local materials were used, both of which are environmentally friendly.
Another advantage of the building is the preferential arrangement of the frame supports around the perimeter, which allows dividing the skyscraper space depending on the current needs of the tenants.
