Recall that the competition was held in three nominations at once: the development of the Moscow agglomeration (that is, the integration of Moscow and the Moscow region), the development of Greater Moscow (the program of the joint future of “old Moscow” and the annexed southwestern “prominence”) and the creation of the concept of a new federal center … The French team Antoine Grumbach et Associes became the undisputed leader of the competition, having won in the first two nominations at once. Urban Design Associates (UDA) Americans, who previously stayed in the background, won the prize for the concept of a federal center.

The not entirely predictable result of the competition is partly due to the fact that during the seminars (recall, there were 6 of them) the teams reported on individual chapters of the assignment and their work was evaluated by a group of experts, while a special jury was created to sum up the final results. The latter included a record number of specialists on various urban issues from around the world: these are Vukan Vuchik, the largest American transport expert, and the famous German urbanist Hildebrandt Mahleidt, who took part in the Berlin development project, and French urbanist Maurice Leroy, concurrently Minister of Urban Development. France and one of the authors of the concept of Greater Paris, Spanish designer Alfonso Vegara, head of the Higher School of Urbanism of the Higher School of Economics Alexander Vysokovsky, President of the Union of Architects of Russia Andrei Bokov. The jury was headed by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Development Policy and Construction Marat Khusnullin, who explained that a smooth transition from the assessment of the participants' work by experts to the formation of a new jury was necessary in order to get a fresh and independent assessment of professionals who, unlike the experts who had worked before, could not to consult with each other and not "cooked in the pot" for six months. By the way, it was for these reasons that the composition of the jury was announced just a week before the results of the competition were announced. Interestingly, both Antoine Grumbach et Associes and the UDA won by a significant margin, indicating that there was no significant disagreement over leaders among the jury. The judges justify their choice by the fact that the winning teams have the most experience compared to other participants in the nominations they won: Antoine Grumbach et Associes made a huge contribution to the work on Greater Paris, and the Greater Moscow project presented by them fully details and justifies decisions on every aspect planning, including economic assessments (in addition, this is the only team that managed to outline the boundaries of the Moscow agglomeration); UDA, on the other hand, are experts of a colossal level in the field of urbanism related to the planning of state representative territories, political clusters, who have successfully implemented more than one project in this area. In addition, the compliance of the designs of creative teams with the requirements of the TK was taken into account, although the jury members note that some confrontation of the views of the teams and moderators of the competition on the development of the territory also served as an impetus for the birth of interesting ideas. Many of them, by the way, will be used in the revision of the General Plan of Moscow, so that the work of all 9 teams will not be wasted in any case. Commenting on the results of the competition for Archi.ru, Marat Khusnullin stressed that the cooperation of Greater Moscow with all designers will continue. According to the head of the construction complex, this will serve as a guarantee that Moscow will turn not just into a system of roads, the asphalt of which can cover the territory of Great Britain 20 times, but into a memorable and friendly space - in each project a large role is assigned to the section devoted to ecology and landscaping. metropolis.

When summing up the results of the competition, experts talked a lot about the fact that the main result of this large-scale competition was not only and not so much the development of projects for the development of the territory, but its thorough study and a fundamentally new look at many of the known problems. And although Moscow simply does not have enough financial resources for the full implementation of projects, the city has received several ideal development scenarios, which it can strive for and implement them in stages. And in this sense, the jury members are more than optimistic: in the city and in the country in general, in their opinion, a new urban process has been launched. “Finally, there is a change from the architectural era of urban design to the systemic urbanistic era, a unified understanding of the development of the city and the surrounding region appears - now we are designing not a city, but an agglomeration,” says Alexander Vysokovsky. “A key transition has emerged from a single-function urban zoning, which is the cause of many urban problems, to a multifunctional one, the transformation of the very structure of the city (and now an agglomeration) into a more flexible polycentric form,” Andrey Bokov agrees.

The exhibition of projects will run in Gorky Park until September 23, admission is free. Each of the teams prepared a very interesting stand, where information is presented even better than at the presentations of the past reporting seminars: in addition to traditional tablets, there are monitors showing only presentations, but also videos. In addition, during the exhibition, representatives of the participating teams will personally introduce their projects to the general public. So, for example, today, September 7, from 15 to 17 you can listen to the architects Antoine Grumbach et Associes, and on September 21 from 11 to 13 and from 15 to 17 - representatives of the UDA.
