The residential building, built on the bank of the Klyazminskoye reservoir, actually owes its name not to Russian antiquity, but to the modern newspaper Kommersant, for which the letter “b” is an integral part of the corporate identity. The fact is that the customer of this house is directly related to the newspaper, and since he took an active part in the creation of the project, the decision of Totan Kuzembaev to name the result of joint creativity with the letter "b" seems more than logical.

As the architect himself recalls, from the first meeting, the client and his wife impressed him as "young and advanced guys" who wanted to get something like a government suburban dacha - a house in a protected forest, among slender pines at the water's edge, in the guise of which luxury would organically combine with rustic simplicity. “I organized a small tour of the village for them, - says Totan Kuzembaev, - and during this walk they liked our first yacht office the most. This is probably the most economical facility of all that we have done, and it was also built in a short time. In it, we used a slab, trimming boards, which are usually thrown away at sawmills and do not even spend money on their disposal. As a result, we almost got the basic building material for nothing, which, moreover, looks very stylish - the object seems to be faced with torn travertine. " The facades of the yacht office so captivated the customers with their texture, naturalness and simplicity that they asked to make their house the same.

In other words, without even having a rough idea of what the house would be like as a whole, the architect knew for sure that it would be built from a slab. This material became a kind of starting point and largely predetermined the laconicism and brutality of the projected building. The main features of the building were drawn gradually - a gable roof protruding strongly beyond the line of the main volume, spacious verandas, open balconies and retro-style glazing. Kuzembaev's hand is immediately visible here: take at least the "skeleton" of the roof that has been released outside - the strict rhythm of the trusses fascinates with the complexity and precision of engineering solutions.

The main facade of the house, in the form of a trapezoid, faces the water. It is decorated with two spacious verandas, which were originally designed as cold ones - as a kind of reminder of the traditions of country cottages of the first half of the 20th century. True, the verandas were subsequently insulated, but this did not deprive them of their original charm. The protruding volumes of the verandas served as the basis for the balconies at the second floor level. They hide in the shadow of the overhanging roof, between the darkened beams, and only low fences made of thin slats separate them from the picturesque view of the water surface of the reservoir.

The most unexpected thing in this seemingly quite traditional and in a good sense old-fashioned building was just the decoration of the facades from a slab, sewn sometimes along and then across and forming a ragged, unevenly voluminous surface. The columns of roughly hewn logs supporting the heavy roof structure are also incredibly charismatic - they add brutality to the house, moreover, the brutality is not refined, but deliberately simple, rustic, and thus noticeably distinguish it from traditional suburban buildings.

The core of the interior layout of the house is a double-height living room, an integral part of the interior of which are exposed roof structures. The living room conventionally divides the space of the house into two parts: in one there is a fireplace area, and right behind it - a study, in the other - a garage, a room for staff, a boiler room, a pantry and a kitchen-dining room. Both parts of the house - east and west - are united by an internal balcony overlooking the living room.

In one of the options proposed by Totan Kuzembaev, Kommersant's house had a very unusual rear facade, similar to a chanterelle mushroom: the roof, like a mushroom cap, wraps itself in a smooth wave on the facade and descends down to the ground. Probably, such a decision would add provocative courage to the project, but the customers ultimately decided to stick with a simpler classic version - unconditionally solid as the “b” sign.
