The Amazonia stadium for 45,000 people is located in the city of Manaus, which is 1,500 kilometers from the coast, at the place where the Rio Negro flows into the Amazon (this section of it is called Solimoins). In the past - a center of rubber production, Manaus today is a free trade zone and high-tech enterprises, a world-class financial center.

The stadium is located on the main transport axis of the city, connecting its center and the airport. The sports park, where the arena was built, includes a sambodrome, fields for playing sports, tracks, multifunctional halls, a water center and other facilities.

The planners - gmp, schlaich bergermann und partner engineers and STADIA Brazil - were challenged to create a simple and efficient stadium that would reflect the local specifics - both functionally and aesthetically. The shapes unobtrusively refer us to the motives of local vegetation. The lower tier of the stadium bowl is built into a rectangular podium, which contains parking lots, an entrance for VIPs, a media area, and rooms for athletes. The upper tier of the stands is separated from the lower one by a ring, where the restaurant, boxes and offices are located. The stadium's podium is linked to the urban environment by gentle ramps leading to its flat roof - essentially an open pedestrian square that surrounds the arena.

The roof of "Amazonia" consists of intersecting interconnected consoles in the form of metal hollow rectangular beams. These gullies also serve as a drain for huge amounts of water during the rainy season. Roofing and front panels are made of translucent fiberglass and protect from the sun and rain not only the stands, but also the nodes of vertical communication and balconies. The cover is divided into large rectangles with rounded corners, reminiscent of the huge leaves of tropical plants. The motif of intersecting lines, started on the roof and facades, is continued in the paving of the pedestrian square on the podium roof.
