The building, funded by Bill and Melinda Gates, brought together the faculties of computer science and computer science. As in most new university buildings and research institutes, the layout of the Gates Hall gives students and teachers of various specialties maximum opportunities for meeting and communication, as this contributes to the emergence and development of new ideas.
For this, a spacious plaza is provided in front of the entrance, protected from rain by a cantilever extension, and the main circulation unit - a glazed atrium - is surrounded by areas for informal activities - individual and joint. Similar spaces are also arranged in niches in the walls of the corridors.
The exterior of the building is defined by a stainless steel cladding, which not only anchors the function of the enclosure as part of the campus "facade", but also protects the interior from excessive sunlight and heat. According to the authors of the project, its complex form, created with the help of advanced digital modeling tools, serves as a clear confirmation of the role of computer science in all spheres of human activity.
