The first of these, HAP 5, has already begun construction this spring, while the other two, HAP 4 and HAP 6, are in the design phase. There is also a fourth condominium, but it has not yet been presented to the public.
HAP 5 is the most typical for creativity
Karima Rashid: his appearance is defined by glass balcony railing in pink and green colors, which deliberately contrasts with the brick facades of the surrounding buildings.
The interior, which Rashid is also closely involved with, also has bright colors, an abundance of patterns and streamlined shapes, a lot of plastic and an emphasized "artificiality". So, even wooden floors will be covered with bright ornaments, which will turn them into something "futuristic".
HAP 4 will receive a facade of multicolored panels with windows in the spirit of the game "Tetris", and HAP 6 will be covered with a pattern that simultaneously resembles flowers and cobwebs. In this case, such an ornament is more than appropriate, since the ends of the building covered by it, according to the zoning rules, should have no more than 10% glazing, and usually this is a dull vertical row of windows, and Rashid's transparent fragments are cleverly included in the overall pattern.
Despite the defiant appearance, the projects promise to be economical and convenient. Apartments in these developments will cost approximately $ 500,000, less than half the price of a typical condominium or co-op in Manhattan. In addition, Rashid, unlike many New York architects, does not leave the "route" of water pipes, ventilation and other similar moments at the discretion of the contractor, but does it himself - as well as the selection of all plumbing, doorknobs and other details. With his interest in ergonomics, this approach will add "points" to the project.
Let us remind you that Karim Rashid is the brother of the architect Hani Rashid, the head of the Asymptote bureau.
