The City of Culture is another project for the reconstruction of numerous industrial complexes in Milan. In this case, the former Robert Zust automobile plant, built in 1904 in the Ansaldo area, received a new function.
It now houses the New Archaeological Museum, the Center for Extra-European Cultures, the Center for the Study of Visual Arts and even the Coll brothers' Laboratory of Traditional Puppets. In addition, the usual cafes, bookstores, boutiques and studios, as well as a passage will be provided.
In the very center of the complex, between the buildings in the neo-Renaissance style, David Chipperfield neatly inscribed a building with a wave-like outline, which will play the role of a covered plaza. Its walls of white frosted glass contrast with the stucco of historic facades during the day and glow like a huge lantern at night.
