By 2017, a new train station is expected to appear … in a location you won't find on the map yet. Over the next 19 years, a new town of Vinge, with 20,000 inhabitants, is expected to grow near Frederikssund: it is currently the largest urban project in Denmark. The master plan was also designed by Henning Larsen Architects and is now connecting their city to the regional transport network.

Winge's idea is based on the following idea: the long-term confrontation between city and village is false, and these seemingly so different types of lifestyle are just sides of the same coin. The integration of the environment with the urban fabric by nature was laid at the very beginning of the design, and natural elements play a fundamental role in the plan, and are not added ex post facto as recreational areas when the "architectural" stage is completed. The same principle is at the heart of the concept of the main transport hub: here the landscape and the urban structure meet to prevent the railway from cutting the city in two.

The station is located below ground level, its roof - a white ring - bends in a vertical plane, touching the platform and rising above the railway tracks, and forms a system of arched bridges. The main artery of the city - the park line, passing through the station, is not interrupted, but twists along an elliptical trajectory and then continues its movement.

On the approaches to the ring, a landscaped terraced structure is built with many public spaces, sports grounds, reservoirs, which enhances the effect of the integrity and fluidity of the urban space and its unity with the natural environment.

An elliptical, saddle-shaped cast-in-place concrete shell protects the platforms from the southwest wind by breaking up the airflow and letting it around the building. Buildings of different heights surrounding the station also shield it from bad weather.

Precipitation is collected through gutters built into the surface in reservoirs along the edges of the structure. This drainage system ensures a dry and non-slippery surface without having to compromise on aesthetics.

The railway station in the city, which does not yet exist, connects it not only with the rest of Denmark, but in a broader sense - with the whole world.
