The winners of the design competition for two Moscow metro stations, Solntsevo and Novoperedelkino, were determined on November 14. We have already talked about the projects of the ten finalists and about the winners, but later it turned out that the projects, especially those of Novoperedelkin, had been significantly changed and modified by the authors in the second round. Everywhere, however, the old idea of projects appears. The authors sent us their projects and we decided to return to the theme of the competition for the design of two Moscow metro stations for the third time.

Solntsevo

The winner, Dmitry Ovcharov's Moscow bureau Nefa Architects [Nefaresearch], decided the sunny theme in the form of spots of light. The sun's rays pass through the round holes of the perforated entrance pavilion, whose pitched roof not only fits into the framework of current trends, but also reminds of a country shed (I recall the classic perforated Meganoma shed in Nikolo-Lenivets), a greenhouse or the Moscow branch of the dacha - iron garage. “We have combined two images - the sun and the summer cottages,” the architects say; however, among the main prototypes, village houses are shown. The outer contour, the shell of the longitudinal walls and the roof are made of perforated reinforced concrete, the ends are glass, but the visor hugging the entrance protrudes deeply forward.

Entering the pavilion, people, especially on a sunny day, will see the sun glare - "bunnies", light, decomposed into rays; however, the authors argue that the effect will persist on a cloudy day. It is more important that the same effect of sun glare is imitated inside: the lower layer of the ceiling is cut with similar chaotically scattered holes that let the light reflected from the inner surface pass through - the diffused light should simulate natural so that people, imbued with the "sunny" mood at the entrance, do not lose this feeling and underground. However, it is doubtful that the diffused light produced the light circles on the floor shown in the illustration; But the spots of "sunbeams" can be imitated by additional illumination or painted. Most of the surfaces inside the station: walls, ceiling, are made of light metal, which, by reflecting light, should enhance it. Round “spots of light” on the floor are echoed by round pedestals: information and seat pedestals, some of them are luminous.

The circles of light are complemented by yellow decorative circles on the walls, drawn according to the laws of op-art: from a certain point of view, a large circle drawn on the floor, walls and ceiling seems to be solid, deceiving our ideas about the perspective and confirming that we are talking about design.

Novoperedelkino

The winner in the competition for the design of the Novoperedelkino station was the project of the Latvian bureau of Yevgeny Leonov and Alexander Demba URA (United Riga Architects), which interpreted the design of the station in an ornamental-national way, based on vaulted pillars resembling: the Faceted Chamber, monastic refectory, “Snow Maiden Vasnetsov, and Khokhloma ornaments.

This project, as it turned out, changed significantly in the second round. First of all, from the station vestibule itself, the pillars, preserved by the authors only in the entrance lobby, where the turnstiles are, have disappeared. This is a reasonable decision, given the words of the critics of the project that the proportions of the vaults were drawn in the first version not quite realistically, higher than they can be built. The pillars became square in cross-section, the ceiling - flat and sank, as it were, lower; it, like the ceiling of the passage, is cut with panels with luminous ornament.

An interesting suggestion: not only metal benches are planned around the pillars, but also "lean-tos" - metal projections against which you can lean while standing.

It is planned that the backlight from RGB-LED emitters fixed in light boxes will change its color, the authors propose "to do this during city holidays." The architects illustrated in detail the scheme for replacing the light ice and cleaning the bolted boxes from dust.

We have already talked about the fact that, although the jury was in session, the decision was not completely made by him, which even caused a moderately lively discussion on social networks. In short, the best was first chosen by voting in the Active Citizen system, and then he was chosen by the jury headed by Deputy Mayor Marat Khusnullin, and the leader of the popular vote received “plus one” vote to the votes of the jury members. The project for "Solntsev" was chosen, however, the result of the vote coincided in the choice of the "Active Citizen". And with the Novoperedelkin project, it did not work out quite according to the announced rules: of the jury, only Marat Khusnullin and the Active Citizen voted for it, but the experts in general, as it was said, in particular, in the BBC article, did not come to a unanimous opinion, and the deputy mayor appointed the favorite of the popular vote as the winner, which thus grew from one vote to a majority. Ultimately, it was not entirely clear who chose the winners, the experts or the people.
