The KRob competition is the oldest and most prestigious architectural design competition in the world. It has been hosted by the Dallas branch of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) since 1973. It was in this year that AIA president, Jim Clutts, commissioned his colleague, talented architect and master of architectural graphics, Ken Roberts, to organize an exhibition and drawing competition. But soon after the successful debut of the competition, Roberts passed away from a chronic illness at the age of 34. The competition, which later became annual, was immediately renamed in honor of its first organizer, who was distinguished not only for his talent as a draftsman and architect, but also for his remarkable vitality.
The works of the contestants are evaluated in two separate nominations: "Professionals" and "Students", which, in turn, are subdivided into several categories: the best freehand drawing, the best drawing in digital or mixed technique, the best drawing submitted to the competition in the original (and sent to the organizing committee of the competition by regular mail) and the best track drawing.
It is noteworthy (and especially pleasant) that according to the results of this jubilee, 40th competition, two of our compatriots at once were highly appreciated by a team of experts: the famous architect Sergei Tchoban and Yegor Orlov, a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture of the Kazan University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, now a student at the Strelka Institute ". The drawing by Sergei Tchoban, with the church of Santa Maria della Salute in Venice depicted on it, received a special jury prize in the category "Best travel drawing". In addition, 2 more works by the architect made it to the finals of the competition in the category "Best Freehand Drawing" among professionals. Egor Orlov sent an illustration from his diploma project “The Future of Architectural Space. Cybertopia. Death of analog cities "(Archi.ru published it in September this year) - as a result, his work went to the final in the nomination" Best freehand drawing "among students.
We bring to your attention some of the works of the winners and finalists of KRob 2014. Drawings of all the participants of the competition who reached the final, you can see on the official website of the competition. Please note that the winners were not selected in all nominations: in some cases only the finalists were determined or a special jury prize was awarded.
