T + T Architects has been working with the multifunctional complex "Savyolovsky City", which is being built in the Butyrsky district of Moscow by the SPEECH bureau, for a long time. It all started in 2013 with a concept for the development of its territory: the architects carried out a deep analysis of the existing situation, thought over the organization of traffic and pedestrian flows, and proposed a detailed project of comprehensive improvement - with open permeable spaces, lively with a mass of landscape techniques and urban furniture, transforming the space surrounding a string of various squares. The next stage in the work of the architects with the "Savyolovsky City" was the interiors of the entrance groups of the buildings of the first stage of construction - two already built twin towers, each with twenty floors. Later, as part of the second stage, it is planned to build another office building and two forty-seven-story residential towers. Meanwhile, T + T's proposals for the improvement of the territory are gradually being implemented - and the entire once semi-abandoned area, which is still formally part of the giant industrial zone number 11, is gradually coming to life. The neighbors of Savelovsky City reacted to the appearance of well-groomed, green spaces: somewhere they removed the fences, and somewhere they opened closed courtyards for the city.

Approaching the two slender towers-giants somehow you do not expect to find outside the door what the architects T + T Architects have invented for the space of their lobbies - or, more correctly, created, as it turned out very creatively. According to the head of the workshop, Sergei Trukhanov, his own courage in solving these interiors sometimes scares him, but he really wanted to oppose bright interiors to the restrained architecture. “The project turned out to be one of those rare cases where there is no need to make compromises and we managed to really break away,” admits Sergey Trukhanov.

The task set initially did not foreshadow such a result. Actually, the architects were required to design two small - about 150 m2 - lobbies, simple rooms of a regular rectangular shape with a two-story hall that goes into the staircase-elevator zone. The authors of the project were not frightened by the lack of space. Yes, in this case it will not be possible to impress the visitor with the scale and spaciousness, but no less wow-effect can be achieved in other ways. For example, to turn the lobby into an art gallery with full-fledged museum exhibits, vivid examples of contemporary art.

In order not to clutter up the already small volume, the architects immediately decided: the exhibits should be hung - but so that everyone who entered would immediately pay attention to them. Something bright, non-trivial was required - say, human figures made of metal wire, made in full growth. The winged "athletes" soaring under the ceiling, as the authors themselves called them, symbolizing the infinity of human possibilities, are called upon to saturate all space with their power, to become its main focus. A young sculptor from Volgograd Vadim Kuleshov undertook the implementation of unusual exhibits. Adding his own vision to the idea of the architects, he created not just figures with wings, but also a kind of hybrid - a man in the process of transformation: an eagle with sharp claws and a bent predatory beak bursts out of his wire chest - a kind of Prometheus, merged with his legendary bird. A somewhat shocking plot, according to the sculptor's idea, personifies the inevitability of a change in everything earthly, including buildings that are transformed over the years, change their purpose, get a second life in a new quality. So the theme of space transformation became fundamental for the project, appealing, among other things, to the history of the place, which is being transformed from an old industrial zone into a part of a modern city.

However, the interior can in no way be considered a neutral frame of flying wire figures. The entrance groups of both buildings, solved in different ways, are subordinated to the general idea and plasticity. The most active are the ceilings with their volumetric zigzag relief. The broken wave originates at the front door and gently rolls over and leads the visitor to the turnstiles. Its irregular geometry, not subject to any laws, distorts and transforms the lobby space. Light plays a special role in achieving this effect. Thin lines of light that traced the ceiling accentuate the edges and fractures of the surface.

In each of the buildings, the volumetric ceiling is echoed by the reception desk, subordinate to the same irregular geometry and made in the same materials: in one of the foyers it is patinated copper, in the other - boiled white drywall. The white interior looks lighter and more airy than malachite-copper. And the reception desk in it is almost incorporeal, it turns into a glowing from within, almost a cosmic object. Opposite both pillars are laconic black parallelepipeds: in the "white" lobby - with cushions-seats, in the "copper" - with light lines making their way through the plastic. You will not immediately guess that this is just a bench for waiting visitors.

The walls and floor, although devoid of faults and protrusions, look expensive and attractive. The elevator lobbies are dominated by white glass panels with a dynamic pattern. Since this part of the entrance group is one-story, the material and color here are intended to visually increase the space. The solution to the same problem is served by bright light, repeatedly reflected and refracted in glass surfaces. In the reception area, the walls, on the other hand, are partially lined with black glass panels, which visually adds depth to the planes. So the choice of materials and their not quite familiar combinations play their own, perhaps no less, role in creating a stunning effect than they enter into resonance with floating sculptures, echoing their energy and supporting movement. And everything together becomes the face of a new complex - extraordinary, expressive, dynamic and not devoid of play with meaning. It is not easy, and it should not be interpreted in some way, once and for all - you never know what you can think of in response to the artist's gesture, all these will be our thoughts, not his. But you enter the house - someone flies towards him, some kind of him, or something, geniuses, whose presence takes us from the plane of useful meters into the area of conflicting multi-layered fantasies. You look, one of the tenants will think in the words of a classic: "… yes this is about me, about us, about all the wolves in hell."
