The 19-storey tower is located on a small hill on the Pacific Ocean; a little lower and closer to the water is the body of the banquet hall. The buildings of traditional light color and rectangular shapes are inscribed in soft relief forms: the architects sought to emphasize the beauty of the landscape - Lake Gyeongpo is located nearby, in the distance - Taebaeksan Mountains.
At the same time, most of the public spaces, including the spacious 5th floor pool terrace (which separates the podium with the lobby, restaurant, spa, etc. from the tower itself), are ocean-oriented - as are almost all of 150 rooms. On the top floor there is a presidential suite with a terrace and a courtyard garden.
It is important to note that for Richard Meier & Partners this is the first large hotel, as well as the first project implemented in South Korea. Seamarq Hotel was built not only for recreational purposes: Gangneung will host part of the 2018 Winter Olympics competitions, so the city needs new roomy hotels.
Richard Mayer noted that in many ways the hotel project resembles the villas he created at the beginning of his career, in particular, the Smith house and the Douglas house. They are united with a South Korean hotel, in particular, the permeability and openness of the natural environment around.
