A team of authors led by partners Wu Gang and Chen Ling was entrusted with the central block of the campus, which consists of more than ten independent colleges in different architectural styles. For them, it was necessary to create a "core" with an administrative part, the Hangzhou Urban Institute, a library, a teaching and student center, a hotel, conference rooms, a theater, and so on. As a result, they occupied an area of 160,000 m2.
It was decided to place all parts of the program in buildings around the perimeter of the plot of six hectares, both independent and connected with each other. In the middle, a square was created through which the central axis of the campus passes, connecting it with the metro station.
The project is based on a modular system that facilitated construction, improved its quality and made it possible in the future to adjust the complex to the changing needs of the university.
The choice of multiple buildings instead of a single volume has resulted in a better urban environment on campus. The height of the buildings specified by the customer was reached, but the resulting "towers" are perceived as a kind of viewing platforms in the landscape, from where views of the national park - the Sisi swamps - and the historic shopping districts open up.
