Lasipalatsi, The Glass Palace is a pavilion with restaurants, shops and a Bio Rex cinema, built by young architects Viljo Revell, Niilo Kokko and Heino Riihimäki in 1936 as a temporary structure for guests of the 1940 Olympics in the center of Helsinki (due to the war, the Games were held only in 1952). Despite its limited service life, it was built with a very high quality and has survived to this day in decent condition, although it survived a period of desolation in the 1980s. Nearby was an art museum, which opened in 1965 according to the will of the merchant and collector Amos Anderson in his former office building, where his apartment was also located. In the early 2010s, the Konstsamfundet association in charge of the museum decided to merge the two sites, allocating 50 million euros for its plan, and found support from the city leadership.

The project developed by JKMM architects assumed the preservation of the Lasipalatsi monument, including the high chimney next to it, its careful restoration and conservation, as well as the creation of a new exhibition space under the adjacent square. The square could not be built up, as it is the former parade ground of the 19th century barracks, which is also a valuable heritage site. Therefore, the halls with a total area of 2200 m2 are located underground, and above their existence can only be judged by the craters-window openings that provide the "underground" with sunlight.

The rooms can be accessed through Lasipalatsi: during the restoration, the walls and the murals by the decorator Eino Kauria, who, among other things, also worked on the colors of the Paimio sanatorium Alvar Aalto, were accurately restored. Much has returned to its original state, but traces of history, including replicas of lost parts created during the 1999 restoration, have also been preserved as valuable.

The 550-seat cinema Bio Rex, which gives half of the museum's name, is home to the art organization Korjaamo. She will show both art-house and "regular" films there, as well as hold festivals. Of particular note are the renovated neon signs of the cinema, the first of its kind in Finland.
