The centuries-old tradition and experience in the production of Belgian bricks, together with an openness to modern trends, allow you to create truly unique solutions. The manufacturing company Nelissen, in collaboration with designer Roel Vandebeek from the Depot design agency Roel Vandebeek, surprised with a non-standard architectural novelty - the Dubio brick. The uniqueness of this product is that it creates the illusion of two bricks stacked on top of each other due to the dark strip-slit.

“This brick can be laid vertically, horizontally, or even with irregular dressing. Dubio bricks allow the architect to fully utilize their creativity,”says Jüri Gevers, CEO of Nelissen.

The base of Dubio bricks is N70, which is 3 cm thinner than standard bricks. This size allows the saved space to be used both for insulation on the outer wall and for greater ergonomics in the living space.

The size of the brick also affects its weight: compared to a standard brick, it is 30% lighter, which saves on shipping costs (transport services). Dubio format (240x70x70) also increases masonry speed due to the higher brick height. The novelty is also convenient for working with non-standard shapes: there is a pattern on the end of the brick, which greatly facilitates cutting at an angle if necessary.

Dubio bricks are available in two different formats: with an asymmetrical cut at the top of the brick, and with two symmetrical dark lines that divide the brick into three equal parts.

Despite its status as a novelty, Dubio brick is already an award-winning product. Among the trophies received are the Henry van de Velde Award 2017, the Product Innovation Award 2018 (Belgian construction award). The German Design Award 2019 in the category of construction and elements is a prestigious award given to projects that have had a significant impact on the development of design internationally.

Brick was also used in the construction of the new Nelissen office.
