The relocation of the internal pipelines was carried out in preparation for the gallery expansion, which was to begin in January 2019. Before the start of major construction work, it was necessary to lay all pipelines along new routes, bypassing the reconstructed part of the building so that the rest of the famous museum would remain open to visitors throughout the entire reconstruction period.
Colin Garbutt, Contract Manager for the installation company Capri Mechanical Services Ltd., selected Megapress in accordance with the requirements of the project, due to the architecture of the old building. Colin talked about the difficulties he faced during the work. For example, to lift pipes along the stairs and then lay them under the ceiling of the gallery through the ventilation and service space.
“In this project, speed, cleanliness and silence were key requirements,” says Colin. - These conditions had to be observed in order not to interfere with the work of the gallery, which remained open below, below us. Welding in such conditions was absolutely impossible, and even the equipment for threading would be extremely inconvenient for us to use in such a tight space. And with Megapress, we were able to get the job done quickly, cleanly and efficiently. It turned out to be the perfect solution."
In total, more than 100 Megapress press fittings were installed in the building, including 2 "cold water pipes and 1¼" to 1½ "hot water pipes.
“I have worked with press connection systems before, but have not tried steel press fittings yet. ViegaColin continues. “We needed permission from the gallery management to approve the spec, so I did a Megapress demo for them with the help of the Viega tech team. The demonstration made a great impression on the host committee, as they had not seen steel press fittings before either. It became clear that they are the ones who meet all the technological and safety requirements necessary for our work."
