The hotel is built on the banks of the Yellow River, the Yellow River, where its bed makes a spectacular loop in an almost desolate, arid area in northern China. The dunes and Inner Mongolia begin across the river, and Lost Villa itself is located on the territory of another autonomous region - Ningxia Hui. This is an ancient border area, which is reminiscent of the preserved section of the Great Wall of China.
The architects tried to fit the structure into context, treat nature with modesty and respect. As a result, the hotel repeats the laconic forms of the traditional houses of the region, in particular - the village of Davan, where it is located.
This is a complex of houses with flat roof terraces, courtyards, cane sheds. In addition to panoramic windows, framing one or another spectacular view, all other openings are small, since the temperature in winter here usually drops to minus twenty. The concrete facades are treated with a special cement mortar, which gives them the texture of local adobe houses. The similarity should be enhanced by the influence of time, wind and rain.
Each of the 15 rooms has its own interior solution, with a special use of light and shadow (with an emphasis on shadow), materials and scale. For example, a special room was invented for children at the mezzanine level: the low ceiling immediately lets adults know that this space is not for them. On the other hand, this size encourages children to play new games.
