Most of this complex was erected in the 1990s according to Bellini's project, and now he is entrusted with updating his building in accordance with modern requirements, making it the first in size and innovation in Europe, and most importantly, preparing it for the international exhibition EXPO-2015. which will take place in Milan.
The most important will be significant structural changes: by 2011, the conference center will have 18,000 seats, including a main hall for 1,500 people, a large hall for 4,500 spectators and 73 modular rooms with a capacity of 20 to 2,000 seats, as well as 54,000 m2 additional exhibition space. But external adjustments will be more important in terms of urban planning: a wide strip of greenery will connect the MIC ensemble with the parks of the new CityLife and Monte Stella district.
Also, the main MIC building will be covered by a "comet" - a structure measuring 200 x 140 m made of silvered aluminum. A layer of ultra-sensitive solar panels will be installed on it, which will generate 800,000 watts of electricity per year and provide energy not only to the center itself, but also to the surrounding residential buildings.
