The most interesting event of the coming week is the lecture of the Chilean architect Alejandro Aravena "Architecture of Action" which will take place at Strelka on Wednesday (20:00). Aravena is a relatively young architect (he is 43 years old) with an active civic and social position. He is known for being the director of the Elementel Affordable Housing Center, designing quality, low-cost housing for the poor. Three years ago, he received the Silver Lion at the Venice Biennale for the project of the Monterrey district, the facades of the houses in which the architect allowed future residents to paint with his own hand, thus allowing them to participate in the creation of their homes. In a lecture, Aravenena will talk about the reconstruction of Chile after the terrible earthquake of 2010. Immediately after Aravena's lecture, Zefirelli's La Traviata will be available at Strelka (21:30).
On Thursday, in the Bakhmetyevsky garage, you can listen to a lecture by Jean-Louis Cohen himself on how the Russian avant-garde influenced world architecture. After the lecture, the audience will be told about the 5th Moscow Architectural Velonoch, which will take place from July 2 to 3. This will be followed by a cycling night in New York, with Jean-Louis Cohen as one of the hosts.
On Tuesday, June 14 (18:30) Alexander Skokan and Andrey Gnezdilov will show their projects and buildings in the Central House of Architects - practicing architects are invited. From Thursday to Saturday, Italian restorers will hold seminars on the theory and practice of restoration work "Diagnostics and Research" in the building of the CNRPM - to participate, you need to fill out a questionnaire, and you can download it here.
Next week it is not too late to see the wonderful exhibition "A City Called Spain" on the third floor of the Central House of Artists, rightly recognized as the largest and most interesting exhibition of Arch of Moscow 2011 (see our article about the exhibition). Arch Moscow continues with two more exhibitions: "Five-Year Plan" in the VKHUTEMAS gallery and "Avtorparty" in the Museum of Architecture (see our article about these exhibitions, both until June 25). And in Nizhny Novgorod on Saturday, June 18, the summer architecture school "AFF - Architectural Future Foundation" - "The foundation of the architectural future" will start working, the topic of this year's classes is "The river in the city".
