It will be located in the Museum Park in the city center (there will also be an art museum designed by Herzog & de Meuron). Like other similar institutions around the world, it will not be a museum of scientific achievements, but rather a natural science education center primarily intended for schoolchildren.
Therefore, the solution of the building had to be as effective as possible, as well as "visual": for example, visitors will be shown, using the example of the museum itself, how the energy of water, wind, sun and even human movement can be used for resource-efficient functioning of the building.
In the center of the building there will be a "living core" with green open and covered spaces with reservoirs, a 3-D planetarium and interactive exhibitions. The highlight of the program will be a shark aquarium with a volume of almost 2.3 million liters; its glass bottom will in parallel serve as a ceiling for the lobby, and visitors will be able to observe marine animals literally from the doorstep of the museum. In addition, two additional wings are planned with exhibition space, an educational center and several cafes.
