She linked two actively renewed areas in the east of the metropolis: the Docks and the Greenwich Peninsula. A lot of jobs have been created both there and there, so it is assumed that this type of transport will become popular among employees of local institutions. In addition, on the side of the docks is the largest exhibition complex ExCel, and in Greenwich is the O2 arena, which also hosts regular exhibitions and concerts. Even the most popular events can be easily reached by the cable car with its capacity of 2,500 people per hour.
It is no coincidence that the start of the project is timed to coincide with the Olympics: sports competitions in fencing, boxing, etc. will be held in ExCel and O2, so the cable car will be tested in “combat conditions”.
Structurally, it consists of two glazed terminals, from where passengers in gondolas set off on a 1.1 km long journey, and they are raised to a height of 90 m. The white supports of the “ropes” are made emphatically light: their openwork volumes should become an appropriate addition to the river landscape.
The project was carefully checked for compliance with the rules of river navigation (ships with a height of 54 m above the water level were supposed to pass under the road) and air traffic.
