The new development will occupy an area of 43 sq. km, of which 28 sq. km will be obtained by draining the bottom of the Boihawan Bay. The main idea of the master plan is based on the image of the delta: the city stands on the Haihe River.
The project includes conservation areas and urban landscapes, individual small islands, and a network of canals that cuts through the main area of the Tianjin Economic Development Zone. In its center there will be a large artificial reservoir - "blue heart". In its middle, a huge "crystal" will grow out of the water, marking the geometric center of the new territory. This "Crystal Mountain" will house hotels, shops and leisure facilities, it will play the role of an exclusive seaside resort. The glass facade of this building can be opened or closed depending on the weather conditions, making it a point of attraction for tourists at any time of the year.
Separate islands of the new territory can be built up according to different projects, in different styles and with different functional tasks. Thus, the delta idea gave, as a result, greater variability and originality of solutions than the more traditional solution: if the entire zone were completely built up with the same type of structures, without the inclusion of elements of the water element and the natural environment.
