One of the main tasks of the upcoming reconstruction is to preserve the characteristic appearance of both the entire sports complex and its individual parts, including the building of the Luzhniki outdoor swimming pool. That is why the project proposed by the UNK project foresees the dismantling of all existing structures, but the preservation of the north-east wall of the bas-relief pool, as well as the north and south walls of the colonnaded pool. The walls are supposed to be preserved and partially moved, adding new facades, identical in style to the existing ones.

The building is formed from two volumes: the lower part with authentic elements and colonnades, and the upper part with a strict ornamented structure on the main facade (there will be an enlarged copy of the preserved bas-relief) and bas-reliefs identical in style on the side facades. The two-part volume forms a single, stylistically consistent image of the building, organically linked to the historical context.

The main motive for the design of new volumes is an ornamental pattern in the form of two mating circles of different diameters, made in natural stone or architectural concrete. Another cross-cutting theme is the use of bas-reliefs in combination with wall planes. This technique is typical for the mid-1950s and was used, in particular, at the Elektrozavodskaya metro station, designed by Igor Evgenievich Rozhin, co-author of the Luzhniki basin. On the other hand, this solution will allow you to accurately close the multilevel planes of interfloor floors and create differentiated lighting of the interior.

The area of the complex after reconstruction will be 42,000 sq. M.
