The Queen's Wharf project received the prestigious buildingSMART International Design Award. This award recognizes the outstanding level of IFC interoperability and implementation of the Open BIM approach at PDC. (which is a division of DBM Vircon). The award was presented to the Digital Engineering team for innovative solutions applied during the work on a $ 3.6 billion project in the Australian city of Brisbane.

Queen's Wharf is a world-class resort that is set to transform the riverfront and Central Business District (CBD) of Brisbane. The Destination Brisbane consortium is developing this project, covering one-tenth of the area and covering more than twenty-six hectares of land and water. The complex includes fifty bars, cafes and restaurants, three residential towers with two thousand apartments and over one thousand one hundred hotel rooms, owned by four brands, one of which will also own a casino.

To understand the scale of this project, one can imagine that the area allocated for public spaces is equal to the area of twelve football fields. The project involves attracting 1,390,000 visitors for the development of the city district. The project involved 39 organizations working in 16 different applications. PDC (DBM Vircon) has used over 340 models, with 215 of them changing every week

“We made the decision to use BIM for two main reasons. Said Simon Crooks, Project Director at the Destination Brisbane Consortium. “In the short term, this gave us great opportunities to coordinate the project, which is extremely important when working on a complex with a total area of more than 340,000 m2. In the long term, this is about maintenance and operation, which we have to provide for 99 years. And from this point of view, BIM technologies were also of exceptional importance."

This solution allowed Cottie Parker to save time, minimize risks and increase the transparency of the entire work process."
