2. How does reflective paint differ from luminous paint (fluorescent, luminescent)?
Glowing (fluorescent, luminescent) paint does not contain glass beads. Therefore, objects painted with this paint only glow under artificial lighting, but do not reflect light. This paint is not reflective and does not work at night. Glowing paint is used mainly in the private segment for signal marking of objects during the day. An important point - for the glow of such paint at night, external illumination is needed - ultraviolet lamps.
Reflective paint is an industrial paint for marking parking lots, fences, for marking pipes, overpasses, bridge supports, shafts, cooling towers, various metal structures, etc. During the day it is a bright signal, and at night the painted surface reflects the light directed at it due to glass beads.
3. Why is road paint with glass beads not reflective?
Road paint is an inexpensive material, usually based on alkyd. Mainly road services apply VD-AK paint. First, the material is applied to the surface, and then glass beads are applied to the paint manually or automatically. In both cases, most of the balls "fall" into the paint and do not reflect.
4. How to apply reflective paint?
The paint is applied either by air spray or by brush (for small areas). For air application, a spray gun with a barrel agitator is used to distribute the balls evenly in the material. It is not recommended to apply the material with a roller due to the fact that glass beads can get into the roller.
5. Why is reflective paint so expensive?
Compared to road paint, reflective paint contains acrylic resins (with a minimum life of 5 years), color pigments of European quality with a guarantee against sun fading, glass beads and a high-performance solvent. Compare, the roads are repainted every year, even the GOST material costs 250-300 rubles per kg.
6. Why can't you just apply regular paint and then sprinkle with glass beads?
Conventional alkyd paint (GF / PF) lasts 1 year, then it fades in the sun. Sprinkling glass beads means that most of them will fall under the paint film. That is, they will be dirty in the paint, and the effect of retroreflection will not work. In addition, balls cannot be applied manually on vertical surfaces (pipes, metal structures, supports, etc.).
7. Is reflective paint applied to clothing, fabric, polyethylene?
Like any industrial paint, reflective paint is applied only to hard surfaces: metal, including galvanized, concrete, plastic, wood. Accordingly, the material is not applied to soft surfaces.
8. Can I use my own primer for reflective paint?
Third party primer can be used. The main thing is that this primer is compatible with the acrylic base of the reflective paint. For example, SV-101 reflective paint is compatible with GF-021 primer. Contact the paint manufacturer for compatibility information. Another important point is the quality of the soil film. So, for example, if your primer has film defects, swelling, bubbling, cracking, etc., we strongly recommend that you clean the coating and primer again before applying the reflective paint.
9. What is the consumption of reflective paint?
Approximate consumption of paint and primer is 1 kg per 4 square meters, activator is 1 kg. by 8 sq.m. For more precise consumption, including losses during application, check with the manufacturer. To calculate the amount of material, check the area to be coated.
10. What is the minimum amount of reflective paint that can be purchased?
