At the beginning of the week, the final meeting of the jury of the competition for the development project of Petrovskaya Embankment took place in Voronezh. The competition was announced in September at the initiative of the city and regional authorities. The operator was the Agency for Strategic Development "CENTER".
The teams that passed the qualification selection were faced with the task of proposing a concept for the improvement of the coastal section of the Voronezh reservoir with a length of 4.5 km and an area of 117 hectares. The goal was to turn this place into an iconic public space for the residents of the city, which will become part of its image, a kind of visiting card.
“Petrovskaya embankment for us is not just a piece of land that needs to be developed. From an urban planning point of view, this is perhaps the most significant territory today. I would like to look not ten or even twenty, but fifty or more years ahead with the concept of development and then the design solutions that will be in this territory. So that people, even after decades, say that we are not mistaken,”- said the Governor of the Voronezh Region, Alexander Gusev, about the expectations from the results of the competition.
At the final meeting, three finalist consortia led by MLA +, Wowhaus and AB Praktika made a presentation of their projects, after which the jury determined the winner, although it was repeatedly emphasized that each of the presented projects deserves a victory (you can watch the broadcast recording here). The prize fund of 2.7 million rubles was distributed among the finalists, and the project of the MLA + team is now planned for implementation.

First place

The project called "Black Earth Sea" divides the embankment into six independent parts: the beach, beach quarters, the historical district of Gusinovka, Admiralteyskaya Square and two walking rings. The architects sought to emphasize the value of the existing facilities and the identity of the Voronezh Sea, provide the embankment with basic infrastructure and create opportunities for diverse recreation of the townspeople.

Second place
Wowhaus, TOU
The concept, developed by Wowhaus in cooperation with the Voronezh bureau TOU, was named "Stream of Time", and all proposed solutions emphasize the cultural, historical and landscape features of the territory. The embankment in this project is divided into several thematic zones: the entrance zone - "Epigraph", historical - "Empire", industrial - "Manufactura" and, of course, water - "Voronezh Sea". But the high-tech zone "Future" is becoming the main one - it houses a cluster with digital museums, university branches, laboratories, summer cinemas, lecture halls and other functional spaces. The architecture of the "Future" is inscribed in the relief and does not argue with the historical appearance of the city.

Third place
Praktika Architectural Bureau, MARSH Lab
The Guiding Star project is not focused on the history of the area, but is directed towards the future. The team viewed the creation of the new embankment as a development opportunity for the entire city. "Voronezh seaside", according to the architects, is turning into a real resort and benefits not only the townspeople having a rest here, but also the ecological system and economy of Voronezh.
