Novokhopyorsk, a town founded by Peter I as a shipyard and then supported by Catherine II in the same capacity, stands on the Khoper River, which flows from Penza to the Don and serves as the second largest tributary of the Cossack river. The authors of the project, which won the competition for the improvement of small towns and historical settlements in the category of small towns with a population of up to 20,000, - the PGS Project bureau, - characterize the city as one of the stops for vacationers from the "northeast" on the way to the sea to the south. The Khoper River is meandering, flows in the black-earth forest-steppe through forest reserves, one of them, Kalinov forest, begins just north of the city. The banks of the river are sandy, the cliffs are replaced by watercourses, so it is also very beautiful here: the place is great for recreation and tourism, and in itself, without the sea.
The presented project is dedicated to the arrangement of one of the city ravines, between the center and the Krymskaya Gorka district. Now in the ravine there are two extremely overgrown ponds, they are planned to be cleaned. In place of the existing ladders, a wooden deck is planned along the dam, equipped with an extension - an observation deck and included in a whole network of other wooden paths passing both over the mountains and over the water; the ponds are also surrounded by wooden embankments. The visualizations smoothly transition into picturesque backgrounds: it turns out bewitchingly beautiful and landscape.

We ask the winners of the competition who send projects for publication to give advice to colleagues who are also planning to participate in the competition of the Ministry of Construction. Here advice from the authors of the project for Novokhopyorsk, PGS Project:
“To approach the development of the concept with all responsibility - to carry out urban planning analysis, sociological data collection, to take into account the opinion of all stakeholders, to anticipate potential businessmen entering your territory. On the basis of the analysis performed, determine the problems and advantages of the territory, identify the identity of the area. Nowadays the design of public spaces is not a story about a pretty picture, it is a story about the cooperation of architects with local administrations and investors. And we are glad that such a competition from the Ministry of Construction, with its framework and conditions, puts the correct understanding of how the work should be structured in the minds of the designers."
Elements: paths, pavilions, stands - it is planned to be made of wood, inspired, among other things, by the carved wooden platbands of city houses. A public discussion was held, the site of the design was chosen by voting. The project is based on the historical and cultural background, which is widely covered in it: the authors mention not only the emperors and window frames, but also the anomalous zone, zhokhuli from the reserve, Ostap Bender …

The design area is also inscribed in the ring of the city's pedestrian routes, both already improved and planned for development. The plan is planned to be implemented in 2020-2021 in one line. The logo and brand of the project were also developed.
